Principles and Practice of Assessment (PPA)

This is a short course which enables staff to gain a key unit for teaching in the lifelong learning sector.  It is designed for all those in an associate or full teacher role who are undertaking PTTLS, CTLLS or professional development.

This unit is from CTLLs ‘Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ covering preparation and planning of initial assessment, delivery, assessment and evaluation. It is designed to take into account roles and responsibilities of those working across a wider range of teaching contexts, e.g. Further Education, Work-Based Learning, Voluntary and Community Based Learning, Working with Young People and Families.

Target Group:
This unit is particularly suitable for tutor assessor practitioners who have completed PTLLS and are progressing to CTTLS

Content:
Understanding key concepts and principles of assessment
Understanding and using different types of assessment
Understanding the strengths and limitations of a range of assessment methods
Understanding the role of feedback and questioning in the assessment of learningUnderstanding how to monitor, assess, record and report learner progress and achievement

The following requirements have been placed on entry:

  • All applicants must be in a teaching post where they can be responsible for the delivery of at least four teaching hours to the same group of learners. 
  • All applicants are required to join the Institute for Learning, the professional body for teachers, and must hold a current CRB Certificate.
  • All applicants must come to the course with proven literacy skills of at least a Level 2 standard.
  • All applicants must have a nominated internal verifier to offer documented mentoring support and give feedback on assessment practice
  • All applicants will need to complete an application form confirming they have the above requirements and reasons for applyingfor this course

Cost for the three days is £395.00
Please note you will be required to attend all 3 days

Each day will begin at 10.00 and end at 16.00
