Briefing from OCNSER:

Response to Redundancy: Helping Colleges to meet the ‘LSC Response to redundancy’ agenda

OCN South East Region offers listed qualifications and units which can be used to provide the types of courses required in the South East by the ‘Response to Redundancy, LSC Regional Requirements, Jan 2009’[1] document.

Our suite of ‘Qualifications in Progression’ can be used to construct short courses to meet the demands of the LSC redundancy agenda in the following areas identified for the South East:

Those in employment under notice of redundancy
Where appropriate deliver an employment related short course (up to 2 weeks full time or equivalent part-time).

Newly redundant individuals
Where appropriate and available, deliver an employment related short course (typically 2 -8 weeks).

Those who are unemployed but would be ready for employment after receiving this package of support
Delivery of a pre-employment short course (up to 2 weeks full time or equivalent part-time), where appropriate and available.

Constructing a course using NOCN Units

The NOCN ‘Qualifications in Progression’ have units specifically relevant to re-skilling, preparing for seeking employment and progressing to further study.

Units & Qualifications in the QCF

NOCN has ‘Award’ sized qualifications at Levels 1, 2 and 3, units from which can be used to design customised courses.

An LSC spreadsheet[2] with lists of fundable units in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) was recently circulated to colleges. This includes many NOCN units from our ‘Qualifications in Progression’ suite. This spreadsheet contains links to a wide range of awarding body units on the National Database of Accredited Qualifications (NDAQ). Since its publication NOCN has grown its Qualifications in Progression and centres should be able to offer a wider range of units than those identified in the spreadsheet[3].

The table further below provides links direct to the NDAQ for the suite of NOCN Qualifications in Progression and the Personal Best qualification. There are further NOCN qualification in the QCF – please see the link below the table.
